Sri Lanka’s First Twin Elephant birth in Minneriya National Park

Two elephant calves age between 3-4 weeks, which feed in the same cow elephant and frequently associate with the same mother elephant was spotted by wildlife authorities and eminent Wildlife Researcher Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya. After long time observation of their behavior, they could gather evidence to come to a conclusion that both calves are a set of twins. However, genetic study on them also needed to be conducted to confirm it.

Although, in a previous occasion also similar observation made with regard to two calves received by the Elephant. TransitHome, it was not been confirmed. Department of Wildlife Conservation request the visitors not to unnecessarily eager to watch the animals as it will hinder their natural behavior.
