Compensation on Wild elephant attacks increases.

Deputy minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Hon. Sumedha G. Jayasena says Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife  Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera will present a proposal to increase compensation given for the families of the persons who killed in wild elephant attacks before the Cabinet shortly. Accordinaly, measures will be taken to increase compensations from current 2 lakhs to 5 lakhs in near future.

Deputy Minister made these comments at the progress review meeting called for appraise the construction of electric feaces in Monaragala District held at Divisional Secretariat auditorium. Under this program, 53 km length of electric fences have been renovated and 73 km distance of new electric fences have also been built. Construction another 80 km distance of fences will be started shortly. Officers who attended to the meeting confirmed that programs which have started under the instructions of the Deputy Minister are in progress.

Deputy Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife also ordered the officials to build another 40 km extent of electric fences in areas where wild elephant threats are high in the District.
