Universal Children’s Day Celebrates at Department of National Botanical Gardens.

According to the Statistics of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, on October 1st , the Universal Children Day, more than 40,000 tourists have visited the Garden and out of 33,000 of them were school children and 17,000 were adults while approximately Rs. 1.7 million has earned on the same day.

Universal Children Day Program was held at Department of National Zoological Gardens under the patronage of Deputy Minister Sumedha G. jayasena. On this day children are allowed to enter the zoo free of charge and several competitions and games were arranged on behalf of the children.

In addition, performances of the school children, elephant dance and several activities involving animals received the attention of the visitors. Awards and certificates were distributes for the children who won the games and competitions by the Deputy Minister.

Deputy Minister said that dedicating a single day for children, who are the future of the country is not enough but adults must pay special attention for them on each day. Universal Adults Day also falls on the same day.

Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens Mrs. Dhammika Malsingha, Director of the Dehiwala Zoo, Mrs. Anoma Priyadarshani, Staff of the Zoo, School Children, Parents, Teachers and large number of persons were attended to the event.
