In every year, World Wetland Day celebrates on 2nd of February. This is a day of directing the world attention towards the conservation of wetlands, which make immeasurable service for the very existence of the planet. This year’s theme of the world Wetland Day was “Wetland and Biodiversity”.
World Wetland Day National Program which was arranged jointly by the Department of Wildlife Conservation and Central Environment Authority was held on 03rd February at Apegama premises under the patronage of H.E. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha.
In parallel with the National Program, a commemorative program was held on 2nd February at Marandamadu, Wilpattu. A Wetland Conservation program was conducted with the participation of students studying in schools situated closer to the Wilpattu National Park and the commemorative lecture was delivered by the Director (Operations), Mr. Manjula Amararathne.
All arrangements were made to conduct celebration programs to mark the World Wetland Day in other Ramza Wetlands of Bundala National Park, Anavilundawa Sanctuary and Chundikulam National Park in accordance with the Annual Action Plan.
